Thank you to our friend in Canada, Joy, who certainly makes our winters look mild!

Today is Saturday, January 16th and I got stuck…well, my car got stuck in the snow…ah winter in Orillia!

Actually, it was quite nice out today… it was only -12C and there was very little wind so it did not seem so cold.  Having said that, I should also say that we had freezing rain over night and it took me almost 30 minutes to scrape the ice and snow off the windows of the car, so I could then go to the store and to visit my friend Bethzy.

Driving was not nice.  The roads were slippery and the snowploughs had not cleared a lot of the snow from the intersections.  This makes it difficult when you come to a stop at a light or stop sign, as when you are able to go, your car wheels can spin and then the back end of the car can slide… it can become scary, especially if there is someone behind you and they are close!

Well, I made it to the store.  Michaels is a large store where you can get everything for doing crafts.  I wanted wool to make a shawl for my daughter-in-law for her birthday and also a baby blanket for Bethzy, as she is expecting her first child this year.  Most importantly, the wool was all on SALE, so naturally, I had to go!  After getting what I wanted, I went for my visit with Bethzy.  I had made her a shawl for Christmas but was unable to get it to her until today.  We had a lovely visit and I was ready to leave.  However, here comes the “stuck” part.  I was parked on the street by her house and when I started the car, the back wheels slipped into the hard packed snow and ice.  It took me a good ten minutes to get out.  To get out you have to put the car in drive, then reverse, then drive, etc. until the back of the car is on more solid ground, like the cleared road.  That was fine but the intersection of this road is a hill and it had ice under the snow….need I say more!

Of course, during all this time, I am thinking “Did I pick up the right wool for the blanket?”… So, after getting onto the main street…back to the store….checked the wool and I had…but it was a senior’s moment Ladies! In the end, I made it home safe and sound with the right wool for everything.

Is spring on the way???  I hope so but we still have February and March which can be unpleasant.  At least, it is not as cold as it has been in the past….
